Welcome to the Thursday 23 April Chat Thread.
Today marks a significant day in the history of Canadian Stamps Day. In 1851, Canada issued its first postage stamps.
The Beaver was Canada's first postage stamp and was issued by the Canada in 1851. It had the initials VR (Queen Victoria), and it was printed on perforated paper in red hues with a "3" in each corner.
It was designed by Sanford Fleming.
The inaugural Canadian three-pence beaver stamp was issued on April 23, 1851. This stamp was also the first animal stamp in the world - all other stamps had traditionally been of a Royal subject. Another interesting fact was that is was adhesive stamp, not used before in Canada, but was made of “laid paper” which did not stick well.
Stamp collector's are called philatelist.
The weekend is almost upon us - hope you have finished assignments or homework if you need to hand them in today or tomorrow.
